One of the Society’s key objectives is to maintain and improve the built environment of Chesham. We participate in consultation exercises relating to local and county-wide plans and we maintain a watching brief on applications submitted for sites in the town and surrounding area.
We monitor the County’s area website to identify applications that are of significance to the town as a whole and respond accordingly. Examples of such instances are given below.
If you become aware of an application on which the Society might wish to comment, do get in touch on planning@cheshamsociety.org.uk. Please note we cannot comment on small-scale proposals of interest only to immediate neighbours.
Local matters on which we have commented include:
- Global Fusion Court site, Prestwood Hill: we objected to this on the grounds of the scale of the development; the application was turned down and the decision was upheld on appeal.
- The Motoring Team site, Amersham Road: we objected to this because of the overbearing size and mass of the proposed car showroom; the application was withdrawn.
- Conversion of an agricultural building off Amersham Road to residential use: we objected as we felt this would establish a precedent; the application was approved.
- Land off Pednor Road: we contributed one of many objections to an application for permission to erect an industrial building in this popular and protected area; although the application was refused, this remains a site of concern.
